Some motivation for you people after a long time! (success on google play store)

Hello beautiful people of the internet, it's been a long time since I posted, I'm too busy with life (university and stuff) but wanted to share something with you to keep some of you indie devs motivated to work on your projects, LET'S GET RIGHT INTO IT.
this is copied from my post on Reddit Android gaming :

  • Hello devs and android people, this is some kind of motivation for people and why you should never give up on something, sit back relax and read the story behind my game and how it made it's way to the top of the charts being #4 in top paid games...
  • first of all i'm a 19 years old guy from lebanon, currently studying engineering, i always loved games, and as a child i wondered how people make them, so i started searching and searching to find out that you need a lot of experience in programming and stuff to bring something to life that doesn't look 1% like something professional, but i always loved trying, started learning some game maker back in 2012, making little stuff and starting projects that never saw the light, i grew up trying and trying without getting bored...
  • I started a project one day and had the intent to finish it, a lot of stuff came in m way that prevented me from working on it, like university, losing motivation was the worst one, it happened because i saw a lot of people failing, they had good games, and they were nowhere near success and even getting recognition, dropped down that project that had a playable demo for a year, than one day i decided to show it to some people on indie game developers on facebook, people really liked the idea and motivated me to continue, this time, i really decided to finish the game, continued working on it in summer and actually finished it sometime back in august 2016,with no marketing i published my game on the play store in that month too, as you all expect i got no recognition at all, which is obvious, tried sharing in some forums, on facebook and even emailing some youtubers all to no avail, made some promo codes and gave it to friends to get some installs and asked them for reviews (that's not nice now i know) but the game still got nothing and died at like 100 installs, i gave up on it but kept checking the google play developer console hoping that a miracle may happen, you guessed it, it didn't actually happen...
  • one day i was checking the play store and saw that you can now make sales on your game for a complete week and said "hey the game's already done for, let's give this a shot"...
  • BOOM, that was it, the paid to free worked because of the free now type of sites and the game got to 10.000+ downloads in 2 days, i got nothing from that for the game being free but felt so happy about it, i don't care about the money, i only care about being happy about something i made...
  • the sale ended, and my game to the 4th position at the same day in top paid games in many countries and even 2 in one of them and that's where it is now :)...
the main thing behind that, at teen years problems start to get on your head from all the directions, parents university love and lots of stuff, my parents always tell me to go find a job in summer to get some pocket money instead of making games that get you nothing, but the thing they don't know is that i love what i do,and that i'm not going to stop doing it even for nothing in terms of funds, and that's what i got for myself, being happy and proud about what i've achieved...
keep working hard for what you love and never give up, don't let people bring you down, and keep making games for life :)
Reda Kaafarani, peace out :)
